Alcohol Myth Debunked: It Doesn't Make You More Attractive, Just Confident

Psychologists from the University of Cologne have debunked the myth that alcohol increases people's attractiveness. A study led by researchers at the Stanford Prevention Research Center has found that while alcohol may boost confidence, it doesn't actually make people appear more appealing.

The study involved 36 heterosexual men rating photos of women based on appearance. They were then asked to select which women they'd like to meet. The process was repeated twice - once with cranberry juice and once with cranberry juice and vodka.

Contrary to popular belief, the men did not rate women as more attractive under the influence of alcohol compared to when sober. However, alcohol did make the men more likely to approach someone they already found attractive. The men became more confident and expressed interest in meeting women they previously rated as 'very attractive' but didn't think they had a chance with when sober.

The study suggests that alcohol doesn't enhance physical attractiveness, but it can make people more confident and likely to approach someone they find appealing. The University of Cologne's research challenges the long-held myth of 'beauty drinking'.
