Alexandria Offers Free Mental Health Training for Adults on Oct 15

Alexandria is hosting a free, eight-hour mental health training session for adults on Wednesday, October 15. The event, held at 4850 Mark Center Drive, is open to various caring residents, including parents, family members, teachers, and health workers. Registration is required to attend.

The session will cover crucial aspects of mental health, such as identifying warning signs and symptoms of mental health and substance abuse disorders. It will also delve into the effects of these illnesses and available treatment options. The city offers this Youth Mental Health First Aid course to support adolescents facing mental health or addiction challenges.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in six youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year in the United States. This training aims to equip adults with the knowledge to recognize and respond to these issues effectively.

The session will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is organized by Dr. Temi O. Aregbesola MPH, Ph.D, who can be reached for inquiries about future sessions at [email protected]. This initiative underscores Alexandria's commitment to promoting mental health awareness and supporting its youth.
