Annual Pink Attire Event Scheduled for 2024

Last Friday, Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College joined the annual "Wear it Pink" campaign, a significant initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. This digital extension of the event's goal continued to run even after the college's 'Wear it Pink' day on October 18th.

First introduced in 2002 by Breast Cancer Campaign (now Breast Cancer Now), "Wear it Pink" encourages individuals to wear pink clothing or accessories to show solidarity and support for those affected by breast cancer. The event has grown over the years, engaging communities, schools, and workplaces in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support services.

At Notre Dame, students and staff wore pink as a symbol of unity and commitment to the cause. U6 student, Eva Thompson, emphasised the importance of the campaign, stating, "Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK but also highly treatable if identified in the early stages. Notre Dame students wore pink to raise awareness and show solidarity with those whose lives have been affected."

U6 student and TikTok ambassador, Valeria Lupanciuc, has been running an online campaign to further promote awareness and understanding of breast cancer. Her efforts include guidance on breast tissue self-examination and encouragement for everyone to check themselves regularly. Valeria's campaign urges people not only to check themselves but also to encourage friends and family to do the same.

The online campaign is part of Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College's 'Wear it Pink' day activities, which aim to raise the profile of National Breast Cancer Awareness Week. The event also serves as a teaching moment for students, promoting discussions about breast health and the importance of early detection.
