Authorities scrutinize a woman in Incheon following a candy incident that led to the hospitalization of four minors due to consumption of expired gummies.

A lady in her mid-forties is currently under the scrutiny of the law enforcement in Incheon, after allegations of distributing expired gummy candies to some fifth-graders, leading to four of them being hospitalized. The incident took place on June 11, near a school in Bupyeong District.

Apparently, the woman handed out these expired sweets to six students, among which four developed nausea and needed immediate medical attention. The gummies, it appears, had surpassed their expiration date by approximately a year. Curiously, she claimed that she had sampled the candies herself and deemed them safe for consumption. Consequently, she was taken into custody on charges of negligence leading to bodily harm.

The authorities have dispatched the gummies for chemical analysis, while continuing to interrogate the woman to ascertain whether she intentionally distributed spoiled food.

This situation recalls similar incidents involving DUI (Nam Tae-hyun, a Winner member) and fraud (Moon Jae-in's daughter).

As of now, the investigation is still in progress, and no further cases of students being affected have emerged. The public and media are echoing concerns about food safety near schools, and the role adults play when they interact with children.

The authorities in South Korea exercise a strict control over food safety and child protection laws, as highlighted by the prompt response to this incident. Parents and schools are advised to remain vigilant about food safety, especially when it comes to unregulated activities or edibles provided by strangers.

The investigation into the woman's actions has sparked debate across general-news platforms, questioning not only the ethics of distributing expired food (science) but also the responsibility of adults in health-and-wellness matters. Meanwhile, the ongoing scrutiny of this case under crime-and-justice laws is a stark reminder of the punishable nature of such neglect, as previously seen in incidents involving DUI and fraud.
