Baby Girl's Exposure to Father's Testosterone Gel Causes Male-Like Genital Changes
A shocking case has emerged where a baby girl's exposure to her father's testosterone gel led to significant changes in her genitalia, resembling male features. This incident is part of a growing concern surrounding the side effects of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).
The baby's father, unwittingly, caused the transformation by applying the gel to his skin. The hormone was then transferred to the infant, leading to her clitoris elongating and labia fusing, mimicking male genitalia. This condition, known as virilization, occurred over time, with the parents only noticing changes at around 10 months old. They promptly sought medical help.
Experts have confirmed that this is not an isolated incident. At least six similar cases have been reported worldwide, involving young children unintentionally exposed to hormone medication through close contact with a parent. In another instance, a 10-year-old boy developed breasts after coming into contact with his mother's estrogen cream. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) has seen a surge in popularity, with over 11 million prescriptions in the US alone in 2021.
