Bremerhaven's Fire Department Weddewarden Now Equipped With 24/7 AED
Bremerhaven's voluntary fire department Weddewarden now has an automated external defibrillator (AED) available 24/7, thanks to the 'Friends and Sponsors of the Fire Department Bremerhaven e. V.' association and the 'Living in Neighborhoods (WiN)' program. The AED was installed on September 26, 2025, at the fire equipment house in Morgensternstraße 2.
Fire department councilor Peter Skusa expressed gratitude to the funders and the voluntary fire department Weddewarden for making this lifesaving project possible. The AED is designed for lay use, featuring pre-connected electrodes, a metronome, and a clear display, ensuring ease of use in emergency situations. It is also compatible with rescue service systems. The AED is secured in an outdoor protection cabinet with a PIN code accessible via the emergency number 112, ensuring its availability in critical moments.
The voluntary fire department Weddewarden will maintain the AED's functionality through regular checks and offer training sessions to the public. The first training session is scheduled for October 16, 2025, at 6:30 PM.
The AED project in Bremerhaven is a collaborative effort between the 'Friends and Sponsors of the Fire Department Bremerhaven e. V.' association, the 'Living in Neighborhoods (WiN)' program, and the voluntary fire department Weddewarden. This initiative aims to enhance public safety and emergency response in the city.
