Celebrating your momentous 106th year on this planet!
In the heart of Bamberg, a special occasion took place on a sunny day. The individual being honoured was Mathilde Pfau, the city's oldest citizen, who recently turned 106 years old. This marks a significant milestone in Mathilde's long and remarkable life.
Born on July 23, 1919, in Oldenburg, Mathilde's journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. She moved to Graz in 1940 with her first husband, where they spent several years together. Unfortunately, her husband passed away in an air raid, and their home was destroyed.
Mathilde's resilience shone through as she rebuilt her life. In 1973, she married Otto Pfau, who was from Bamberg, and the two spent over 50 years together. Sadly, Otto passed away, leaving Mathilde to raise her five children on her own after the deaths of her partners.
The birthday celebration was a special situation for the current mayor of Bamberg, Andreas Starke. Having served as mayor for nearly 20 years, this was the first time he had the privilege of congratulating a 106-year-old on her birthday. The event was a fitting tribute to Mathilde's indomitable spirit and her contributions to the community.
Mayor Starke, in his address, praised Mathilde for her strength and resilience, stating that she is an inspiration to all. He also expressed his gratitude for her years of service and dedication to Bamberg.
Mathilde's life is not just rooted in Bamberg. She also has a second home in Austria, a testament to her adventurous spirit. Despite her age, Mathilde remains active and independent, a beacon of vitality and grace.
As we celebrate Mathilde's 106th birthday, we are reminded of the power of resilience, the importance of community, and the beauty of a life well-lived. Here's to Mathilde Pfau, the oldest citizen of Bamberg, a true inspiration to us all.
