In the heart of the German food industry, a significant labor dispute is unfolding between the Union Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) and Wolf ButterBack KG. The latest developments indicate that the dispute has intensified, with employees of Wolf ButterBack, represented by NGG, implementing warning strikes on both the early and late shifts for two hours each.

The current impasse in negotiations can be traced back to July 1, 2025, when discussions between NGG negotiator Regina Schleser and Wolf ButterBack KG proved unsuccessful. The crux of the issue lies in the demands made by the NGG, which include a monthly wage increase of 440 euros, a vacation bonus of 900 euros, shift-free time, and a higher employer contribution to the company pension scheme.

The union has also criticized the mediation rules, contract duration, and the evaluation and remuneration of administrative staff in the current negotiations. NGG aims to reach the level of branch tariff agreements in the baking industry in Bavaria with these demands. However, Schleser stated that longer contract periods and different wage increase distributions do not bring them closer to an agreement.

The employer side, Wolf ButterBack KG, is economically strong and has experienced growth in recent years. The company is attempting to block a scheduled works council meeting next week through an interim injunction from the labor court. The legality of this measure is uncertain.

As the labor dispute continues, both parties remain at an impasse. The NGG has responded to the company's stance with further warning strikes, but it is unclear if the employer side has made any counter-offers regarding the demands made by the union. This ongoing dispute is a testament to the complexities and challenges faced in modern industrial relations.
