Charité Appoints Prof. Jens Vogel-Claussen as New Radiology Director

Professor Jens Vogel-Claussen, a 51-year-old specialist in radiology, has been appointed as the new director of the Department of Radiology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He succeeds Professor Bernd Hamm and will oversee a clinic with campuses on Benjamin Franklin, Charité Mitte, and Virchow Clinic, offering comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services.

Prof. Vogel-Claussen brings extensive experience and international recognition to his new role. He previously served as the leading senior physician and head of cardiovascular radiology at the Hannover Medical School (MHH). His expertise lies in translational lung imaging, with a focus on early lung carcinoma detection using low-dose CT and functional lung imaging using MRT.

He aims to further develop radiology as a central unit in interdisciplinary patient care, with a strong emphasis on early disease detection using gentle imaging techniques. This aligns with his belief in the significant impact of early detection of oncological and cardiovascular diseases on morbidity and mortality. His research involves collaboration with interdisciplinary teams from various fields, such as medicine, physics, biology, informatics, and engineering sciences.

As of October 1, Prof. Vogel-Claussen takes the helm of the Department of Radiology at Charité, supported by the Charité Foundation. His appointment is expected to strengthen the clinic's commitment to early diagnosis and gentle imaging methods across its three campuses.
