City Hosts Dementia Awareness Events: 'Wochen der Demenz'
The city is hosting a series of events focused on dementia awareness and support, with activities for both those affected and their relatives. The programme includes workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and social gatherings, aiming to foster exchange, information, and shared experiences.
Kicking off the events is the ILWIA Action Day 'Living in Old Age' on September 12 at the Fish Market. Attendees can experience a dementia simulator, test their knowledge with a quiz, and gather information. The following week, on September 16, the Conversation Offer for Relatives will take place at the Meeting Point Church.
For those interested in learning more about dementia and its effects, a lecture titled 'Perspective Change - Experiencing Dementia' will be held on September 23 at the Town Hall, followed by an exchange session. The same day, an exhibition titled 'Who Rests, Rots' on Literature, Games, and Engagement Ideas will open at the City Library, running until October 3.
The 'Wochen der Demenz' event will take place from September 12 to 28, 2025, offering a wide range of activities. These include a dementia-sensitive zoo visit on September 16, Brain Jogging with Coffee & Cake on September 24 at the Multi-Generational House Action Sonnenschein, and a workshop for school classes titled 'Knietzsche and Dementia' on September 25 at the City Library.
Professionals and relatives can also benefit from a lecture on 'Dealing & Communication with People with Dementia' on September 25 at the Neighborhood Help Association WGG, and an exchange with the Senior Council and Care Support Point on September 17 at the House of Encounter.
Additionally, a 'Relatives Training' will be held from September 4 to October 23, led by Dirk Mischkale, taking place from 16:30 to 18:30.
The city's comprehensive programme offers a wealth of opportunities for those affected by dementia, their relatives, and professionals to learn, engage, and support each other. With a mix of informative sessions, interactive activities, and social events, the 'Wochen der Demenz' aims to raise awareness and foster a more dementia-friendly community.
