A Scoop on Deion Sanders' Health Issue: Coach Prime Takes a Break

Deion Sanders, head football coach at Colorado, is currently battling an undisclosed health issue, as revealed by ESPN. This sidelined him from attending the team's summer camps that commenced last week, according to USA Today.

The 57-year-old football legend seems to be doing alright, according to his son Deion Sanders Jr., who assured fans in a YouTube livestream that his father was feeling well. However, there's no firm timeline for his return.

"Don't worry, he'll spill the beans about what he's going through soon enough," Deion Jr. remarked, USA Today reports. "Once he's done with his business, we'll head back to Boulder."

Colorado's first game of the season is against Georgia Tech on August 29th. Although the Buffaloes had a promising 2024 season under Sanders, finishing 9-4 (7-2 Big 12), they bid farewell to their star players, Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders (coach's son) in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Deion Sanders has encountered health issues in the past, notably two toe amputations due to blood clots in 2022 and missing Pac-12 media day in 2023 due to blood clots in his legs. Despite these troubles, there's no confirmation whether they're related to his current health dilemma.

Sanders was initially scheduled to speak at a medical conference in Florida but had to cancel due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, according to the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research.

While Sanders' health journey continues, close associates such as Michael Irvin have reported that he's in high spirits and recuperating at his Texas home.
