DIY Table Lamp Made from Old Ribbon Spools
In a creative and eco-friendly project, you can transform old ribbon spools into a stylish table lamp. This beginner-friendly project requires some crafting supplies and a lamp kit, which can be sourced from eBay or Home Depot.
To begin, arrange the spools with the cord coming out of the bottom and the metal tube at the top. The other end of the spool (the bottom) is left for the cord to come out. A hole or drill is made on one side of the selected bottom spool for the cord to exit.
The spools are then glued together to create the lamp structure. A Duck Tape circle is cut and placed on one side of a spool with washers. These washers should be flat and have a center hole slightly larger than the fixture pipe. The washers are used to secure the fixture pipe, which is inserted through the top Duck Tape and secured with locking nuts and a coupling.
The centers of the spools are covered with Duck Tape, and the project involves painting the spools in a coordinating colour with the Duck Tape. The wood plaque, serving as the base for the DIY table lamp, is painted to match the spools.
The lamp is wired using an underwriter's knot and the socket. A Slip-UNO shade, which includes the harp in the shade, is used for the lamp. The project concludes by gluing washers to the top and bottom of one spool to secure the fixture pipe.
