Filippo Baroncini Remains in Induced Coma after Tour de Pologne Crash

Filippo Baroncini, a rider for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, is currently in a stable condition but remains in an induced coma following a serious crash at the Tour de Pologne 2025. The incident occurred during stage 3 of the race, where he suffered face, neck, and clavicular fractures, as well as fractured vertebrae.

The crash resulted in the neutralization of the race for nearly 20 minutes, suspending the GC times for the stage. UAE Team Emirates-XRG was one of the teams affected by the crash.

Mauro Gianetti, UAE's team manager, flew to Poland to check on Baroncini personally. He was taken to a hospital in Wroclaw, Poland, where he was diagnosed with the injuries mentioned above.

The main concern is Baroncini's fractured vertebrae, but no new concerns have arisen as of yet. Specialists are assessing whether surgery on the vertebrae will be necessary or if he can avoid an operation. Plans are for him to be transferred to Italy for surgery in the coming days once he is stable enough.

The UAE Team Emirates management expressed cautious optimism about his condition, emphasizing patience and the positive sign of stable vital parameters. Jan Christen, a teammate of Baroncini, is currently in third place at the Tour de Pologne, 12 seconds behind the leader. Despite the accident involving his colleague, Christen and the rest of the team remain motivated for the remainder of the Tour de Pologne.

Baroncini's family, including his brother, father, and agent, are in Poland, staying near the hospital where he is receiving treatment. They have expressed their support and best wishes for his recovery.

Baroncini will remain in an induced coma for a few more days, possibly until he reaches Italy for the operation. Further assessments are needed before a decision can be made about the operation on his vertebrae. The team and fans alike are hopeful for a speedy recovery for the young rider.
