In a concerning development for the healthcare sector, Central Kentucky Radiology (CKR) – a doctor-led radiology medical group offering diagnostic and interventional imaging services – has fallen victim to a cybersecurity incident. The breach, which occurred between October 16 and October 18, 2024, has affected the personal information of more than 166,000 Americans.
CKR became aware of the network disruption on October 18, 2024, and immediately secured its systems to prevent further breaches. The company has since completed a detailed review of the potentially impacted files, determining that information related to affected individuals was contained in the files.
While the extent of the exposed data remains unclear, the breach may have exposed names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, dates of medical service, and medical services charges. CKR is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to individuals whose Social Security numbers or payment card details may have been compromised.
The incident is the latest in a series of cybersecurity threats that have plagued the U.S. healthcare sector in recent months. In April 2025, Esse Health in Missouri suffered a cyberattack that compromised the personal information of approximately 263,601 individuals. In August 2024, AltaMed Health Services Corporation in California experienced a data breach stemming from unauthorized access to an employee email account, exposing information of 4,530 individuals. McLaren Health Care in Michigan, too, was affected by a breach in August 2024, with compromised data including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical information, and health insurance details.
These incidents underscore an ongoing rise in healthcare cybersecurity threats driven by ransomware, insider abuse, and technical mismanagement, with severe consequences for patient privacy and trust. Organizations are increasing security efforts but remain vulnerable to evolving cyberattacks targeting personal health information.
