Data Breach Exposure: Potential Disclosure of Personal Information for 166,953 Individuals - Health Care Company Warns of Potential Leak of Names, Addresses, Social Security Numbers, and More
In a concerning development for the healthcare sector, Central Kentucky Radiology (CKR) – a doctor-led radiology medical group offering diagnostic and interventional imaging services – has fallen victim to a cybersecurity incident. The breach, which occurred between October 16 and October 18, 2024, has affected the personal information of more than 166,000 Americans.
CKR became aware of the network disruption on October 18, 2024, and immediately secured its systems to prevent further breaches. The company has since completed a detailed review of the potentially impacted files, determining that information related to affected individuals was contained in the files.
While the extent of the exposed data remains unclear, the breach may have exposed names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, dates of medical service, and medical services charges. CKR is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to individuals whose Social Security numbers or payment card details may have been compromised.
The incident is the latest in a series of cybersecurity threats that have plagued the U.S. healthcare sector in recent months. In April 2025, Esse Health in Missouri suffered a cyberattack that compromised the personal information of approximately 263,601 individuals. In August 2024, AltaMed Health Services Corporation in California experienced a data breach stemming from unauthorized access to an employee email account, exposing information of 4,530 individuals. McLaren Health Care in Michigan, too, was affected by a breach in August 2024, with compromised data including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical information, and health insurance details.
These incidents underscore an ongoing rise in healthcare cybersecurity threats driven by ransomware, insider abuse, and technical mismanagement, with severe consequences for patient privacy and trust. Organizations are increasing security efforts but remain vulnerable to evolving cyberattacks targeting personal health information.
As the investigation into the CKR incident continues, affected individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant and monitor their accounts for any suspicious activity. CKR has not disclosed any further details about the additional measures implemented or further details about the complimentary credit monitoring services offered.

- In an unexpected twist, the compromise of cryptocurrency could potentially be used by cybercriminals to demand ransom in the ongoing series of cybersecurity threats targeting personal health information, as seen in the recent incidents in the US healthcare sector.
- The blockchain technology, with its promise of security and transparency, might be leveraged to enhance healthcare data security and protect sensitive medical-conditions information from unauthorized access, as the sector grapples with the escalating health-and-wellness-related cyber threats.
- While addressing the current predicament, healthcare providers must also explore the potential of altcoins as a means to fund or incentivize the development of advanced health-related applications and analytics, thus bolstering the industry's overall resilience against cyber threats in the future.
