Enhanced patient care and medical professional assistance at Croydon hospital due to cardiac output monitor implementations
In a significant move to enhance post-cardiac surgery care, Camgenium and Cardiac Tech have partnered to introduce a pace-protect system. Meanwhile, Vygon UK is making waves in the healthcare industry with its Mostcare Up devices, which are now a staple in Croydon University Hospital's Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU).
Vygon UK's focus on providing healthcare professionals with industry-leading tools that enhance their job has led to a positive impact on the hospital's ITU. Tim Kuhn, Head of Nursing at the hospital's Critical Care and Critical Care Outreach Team, spearheaded the introduction of the Mostcare Up devices in-line with the unit's philosophy.
The Mostcare Up devices are an arterial waveform analysis cardiac output monitor designed to guide and enhance clinical decision-making in the operating room and critical care areas. They provide real-time continuous advanced minimally invasive haemodynamic monitoring for assessment of preload, contractility, and afterload.
Before the upgrade, the hospital's ITU had six cardiac output machines that required calibration every 24 hours and used consumables worth around 50,000 GBP per year. The installation of the Mostcare Up devices has saved around 50,000 GBP on consumables at Croydon University Hospital. Additionally, the devices have reduced administrative pressures on clinicians by almost five hours per patient, per week.
The new ITU at Croydon University Hospital is equipped with 10 Mostcare Up haemodynamic monitors from Vygon UK. These devices calculate cardiac output and other key haemodynamic parameters without the need for calibration or input of demographic data, thanks to their patented PRAM (Pressure Recording Analytical Method).
Vygon UK's commitment to the NHS is further strengthened with the addition of David Wynne as a vascular access expert. The Mostcare Up devices from Vygon UK are improving efficiencies, supporting patient care, and making cost-savings in Croydon University Hospital.
In other news, PaceMate, a cardiac monitoring platform, has named a new Head of AI as it prepares for AI expansion. Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has invested 15 million GBP in a new Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) at the end of 2023. Tim and his colleagues at Croydon University Hospital ran a Mostcare Up pilot to evaluate the devices, and the results have been promising. Michelle Tsang, Product Specialist at Vygon UK, is continuing to work closely with Tim and the critical care team at Croydon University Hospital to ensure the successful implementation of the Mostcare Up devices.
