The Department of Health (DOH) 7 has cranked up the surveillance alert level in Central Visayas, given the recent monkeypox (Mpox) cases reported in the region. 😷
In a statement on June 3, 2025, Dr. Joshua Brillantes, DOH 7 Director, urged everyone to stay vigilant and adhere to safety measures to nip the contagious disease in the bud. 🛑
Brillantes also urged calm and discouraged stigma against individuals with Mpox, stressing that anyone can be affected. 🤝
He emphasized the importance of relying on accurate, verified health info and taking compassionate action. 🔍
"We assure the people of Central Visayas that the health system is alert and equipped to respond," said Brillantes. 💝
According to reports, six Mpox cases have popped up in Central Visayas since January. 📈 Three cases were found in Cebu City, with one each in Mandaue City, Talisay City, and Lapu-Lapu City.
Five of the patients have recovered. Unfortunately, one death was reported in Talisay City - not due to Mpox, but because of complications from underlying health issues and a weakened immune system.
