Evita Platform Aids Hereditary Cancer Detection in Portugal
The Evita Platform, a tool for assessing hereditary cancer risk, has gained traction in Portugal. Over 2,300 individuals have used the platform, with the majority advised to seek genetic counseling. This comes as Portugal faces around 7,000 hereditary cancer cases annually.
The Evita Platform offers a simple 10-question questionnaire based on national recommendations. If a user answers yes to any question, they are advised to seek genetic counseling. This is crucial as family doctors may struggle to recognize hereditary cancer patterns in family history.
The platform has seen significant use, with 3,215 users and 2,310 test takers. Of these, 81% received an elevated risk indication. Evita plans to offer genetic counseling and psychological support via telemedicine in the future.
