Federal Alert: Walmart's Marketside Linguine Linked to Deadly Listeria Outbreak
A federal health alert has been issued for ready-to-eat meals sold at Walmart, linked to a deadly listeria outbreak. The alert includes Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce, with best-by dates ranging from Sept. 11 to Oct. 1. Three deaths and at least 17 illnesses have been reported in a previous outbreak involving chicken fettuccine Alfredo, with the listeria strain matching the one found in the linguine.
The affected meals were sold in 12-ounce clear plastic trays and had best-by dates between Sept. 22 and Oct. 1. No official recall has been issued yet. The manufacturer of the noodles used in the suspect linguine meals is FreshRealm. Listeria infections can cause serious symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. The infection is particularly dangerous for older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. FreshRealm has advised Walmart to remove the meals from store shelves this week.
Consumers are urged to check their Walmart purchases for the affected Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce and avoid eating it. If you have any of the suspect meals, return them to the store for a refund or throw them away. If you experience symptoms of listeria infection, seek medical attention immediately.
