In a surprising turn of events, three containers labeled as containing 'Phosphorus' were discovered during maintenance work in a building on Duisburger Street. The nature of the phosphorus in the containers remains unclear, and further investigation may be necessary to determine its exact properties and why it was found in the residential building's basement.

To ensure the safe disposal of the containers, a firefighting team equipped with special gear entered the basement to handle the containers. The operation, which took place on a section of Duisburger Street between Hansa and Emmericher streets, lasted approximately an hour and a half. Fortunately, the public was not put in danger due to the operation, but the specific nature of the phosphorus may have posed a potential risk had it been white phosphorus.

White phosphorus, which can easily ignite, reacts quickly with other substances, and is toxic to humans and animals, was not specified as being in the containers. However, the operation's purpose could have been further clarified if the nature of the phosphorus in the containers had been known.

To handle the situation, the fire engine from Broich fire station, specialized vehicles for ABC operations, and the command service were involved. The containers were securely stored and handed over to a specialized company for disposal. It is worth noting that the kindergarten located in the building was evacuated before the operation began, and no one was injured during the process.

The reason for the phosphorus containers being in the residential building's basement is unknown. The containers were labeled as containing 'Phosphorus,' but not as containing white phosphorus. The specific type of phosphorus in the containers that would have necessitated the use of specialized gear, vehicles, and a firefighting team remains unclear. The nature of the phosphorus in the containers may have potential safety and health implications due to its known properties.

Investigations are ongoing to shed more light on this unusual discovery and the circumstances surrounding it. The public will be kept informed of any developments as they become available.
