A construction worker in Kiel faced a life-threatening situation when he suddenly collapsed and experienced cardiac arrest while working in a deep excavation. The quick response of the fire department proved crucial in saving his life.

The incident occurred at the construction site of Kiel's main fire station on Westring. Colleagues swiftly alerted the central emergency rescue service of the fire department, who arrived promptly. Fire department employees immediately initiated medical first aid, including revival measures, while the man was still in the approximately 4-meter deep excavation.

The fire department's swift action significantly shortened the therapy-free interval, which is the time between the collapse and the start of medical treatment. This professional response was critical in ensuring the construction worker arrived at the nearby hospital with a functioning circulatory system. The worker was rescued from the excavation using a turntable ladder and a special rescue device designed for such situations, all while revival efforts continued.

The fire department's quick and professional response, along with the application of medical first aid, played a vital role in saving the construction worker's life. The department encourages everyone to learn and apply medical first aid with revival measures, emphasizing that these skills can be life-saving in emergency situations like this one.
