Greifswald to Strengthen Palliative Care with Charter Signing
On October 10, 2025, a significant event in healthcare is set to take place in Greifswald. The Charter for the Care of Seriously Ill and Dying People in Germany will be ceremonially signed, marking a commitment to improve palliative care across the region. This initiative, led by Palliative Network Vorpommern GmbH, aims to strengthen regional palliative care services.
The Charter, first published in 2010 by the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP), the German Hospice and Palliative Care Association (DHPV), and the German Association for Palliative Care (BAK), outlines five guiding principles. These principles aim to enhance the quality of life for those living with serious illnesses and the dying.
The signing event is organized by PalliativePARTNERS, an initiative of Palliative Network Vorpommern GmbH. Key signatories include prominent figures such as Dr. Stefan Fassbinder, the Mayor of Greifswald, and representatives from University Medicine Greifswald, Greifswald Senior Citizens' Council, SAPV Team Peene-Ost, and Palliative Association Sonnenweg. These signatories symbolize a united front in supporting the Charter's objectives.
In addition to the signing ceremony, the event will also witness the launch of PalliativeDIALOG. This lecture trilogy, organized by Ulrich, aims to raise awareness about palliative medicine and end-of-life care. It is hoped that this educational initiative will foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the importance of palliative care.
The ceremonial signing of the Charter in Greifswald is a testament to the region's commitment to improving palliative care. With the support of local institutions and prominent figures, the Charter aims to strengthen regional palliative care services. The launch of PalliativeDIALOG further underscores this commitment, promising to educate and inform the public about the vital role of palliative care in our society.
