India Unites for Vijayadashami 2025: A Nationwide Triumph of Good Over Evil

India is gearing up to celebrate Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, on October 3, 2025. This significant festival marks the triumph of good over evil and is celebrated across the country with diverse cultural expressions.

In North India, Vijayadashami honours Lord Rama's victory over Ravana, symbolising the defeat of pride and anger. The celebrations include dramatic Ramlila performances, notably in Delhi and Varanasi, where the latter is recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. In Bastar, Chhattisgarh, a unique 45-day festival dedicated to local gods culminates on Vijayadashami.

In the South, Vijayadashami is celebrated with Ayudha Puja, Vidyarambham, and grand doll displays like Bommala Koluvu. In the East, particularly West Bengal and Odisha, Vijayadashami signifies the conclusion of Durga Puja, with the ceremonial immersion of Goddess Durga idols. It also marks the culmination of Navratri, celebrating Goddess Durga's conquest of the demon Mahishasura. Other regions like Gujarat, West Bengal, and Telangana have distinct celebrations such as Garba and Dandiya, Durga Puja, and Bathukamma respectively. Jammu is also known for its notable Dussehra events.

Vijayadashami, celebrated nationwide on October 3, 2025, brings together diverse cultural expressions, each highlighting the victory of good over evil. From North to South and East, the festival unites India in celebrating righteousness, truth, and courage.
