Leaky tap water troubles residents in Vitebsk region, as they complain about poor water quality.
In the small town of Gorodok, located in the Vitebsk region of Belarus, residents living on Gagarin Street have been grappling with a persistent problem: poor quality water. For several years, Marina, a local resident, has been dealing with murky and discoloured water coming out of her tap, which has made cooking, showering, and even basic hygiene difficult.
The issue has been a source of concern for Marina and her family, who have reported the problem to various services, including communal services, 115, and the JES. However, their reports have often been met with reassurances that the water is of good quality, despite visible evidence to the contrary.
The water supply network in the affected area has been under repair to address the issues, with specialists regularly monitoring the quality of drinking water. The iron removal station in Surovni village, Gorodok district, is currently undergoing reconstruction to improve water quality.
Despite these efforts, Marina's family continues to experience problems. The filters in their apartment frequently get clogged due to the poor quality water, and the hot water is often the colour of coffee. Even the cold water, while slightly better, remains gray. Cooking with the water is deemed potentially dangerous, and taking a normal shower is impossible due to the frequent breakdowns in the plumbing caused by the poor quality water.
In response to the ongoing issues, residents of the affected microdistrict have had their cold water supply charges reduced during the time of water supply issues. "Vitebskoblvodokanal," the local water utility company, has confirmed that they are aware of the water issues in the Gagarin Street area and are working to address them.
The central water supply network is set to be flushed once the reconstruction is complete, which residents hope will bring an end to their long-standing water quality problems. Until then, they continue to live with the inconvenience and health risks posed by the poor quality water.
- The ongoing water quality issues in Gorodok's Gagarin Street, particularly affecting Marina's family, make health-and-wellness a significant concern, as cooking with the discolored water and taking regular showers are difficult due to its poor quality.
- The persistent problem with the quality of water in Gorodok, a small town in Belarus, also poses challenges in the realm of environmental-science, since the water supply network's multiple repairs and the ongoing reconstruction of the iron removal station in Surovni village are aimed at improving water quality for the residents.
