Legendary musician Billy Joel's spouse maintains optimism amidst his struggle with a brain ailment.

Billy Joel, the iconic "Piano Man" singer, has canceled his upcoming concerts after being diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a neurological condition that affects the vision, hearing, and balance.

The singer's wife, Alexis, expressed optimism about her husband's recovery in a social media post. She also highlighted the swift diagnosis and care Joel received. Billy Joel is 76 years old.

Alexis, who is his fourth wife, married Joel in a surprise wedding on July 4, 2015, and the couple has two daughters together. Joel's ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, sent love and good wishes to her former partner via an Instagram post, expressing hope for a speedy recovery.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a condition where cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain. This condition is more likely to occur in individuals over the age of 65. Treatment typically involves surgery to implant a shunt and drain excess fluid from the inside of the skull, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Joel postponed several performances earlier this year to recover from a medical condition and undergo physical therapy. He rescheduled those performances, with the tour expected to resume on July 5.

It is not the first time Joel has faced health issues. During a recent performance, he tripped after tossing his mic stand to a crew member but quickly recovered.

Joel released a new single called "Turn the Lights Back On" in 2024, which marked his first new song since 2007.
