Leukemia took the life of Potofski.
Ulli Potofski, a beloved sports presenter, has passed away from leukaemia. The news was confirmed by his partner, Nadja Bogdanovic, to the magazine "Bunte".
Potofski's health took a turn for the worse in mid-May when he received his leukaemia diagnosis following a blood test. Prior to this, he had been feeling very weak and had lost a significant amount of weight. His chemotherapy began immediately after the diagnosis, and he was allowed to leave the hospital for two weeks in mid-July.
However, the planned bone marrow transplant, which was scheduled for August 1st at the University Hospital in Essen, had to be postponed due to the donor being on vacation. A new date for the transplant was set for mid-August, but unfortunately, Potofski passed away on August 3rd.
Despite his illness, Potofski remained a devoted fan of Schalke 04 until his death. Even upon his return from the hospital, he took his Schalke hand towels with him, demonstrating his unwavering support for the team. His final wish was for his final resting place to be on the "Schalke Fan Field", a location that is significant due to its proximity to the Schalke arena. The burial on the "Schalke Fan Field" is a fulfillment of Potofski's last wish, as a burial ceremony for him is planned for the near future.
The "Schalke Fan Field" is located two kilometers away from the arena, and it is a place where many Schalke fans come to pay their respects to the deceased. Potofski's passing is a great loss to the world of sports presentation, and he will be greatly missed.
