Life-Saving Feat by Youngsters: "An outstanding revival was performed"
In the heart of Remshalden, Germany, on a sweltering hot day with temperatures reaching up to 37 degrees, Semi Russ (17) and Filip Vrbetic (16) found themselves in an unexpected situation. They witnessed a man lying motionless with no breathing and no pulse in Remshalden-Grunbach, part of the Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg.
With a sense of urgency, the teenagers sprang into action, motivated by the question "If not us, then who?" Semi turned the man onto his back and began chest compressions, following instructions from the integrated control center. Filip, meanwhile, ran to the nearest Volksbank branch to retrieve a defibrillator, a crucial piece of equipment in the publicly accessible "defi network" in the Rems-Murr district.
Upon returning with the defibrillator, it advised a shock, which was administered by two volunteer first responders who arrived at the scene. The patient received a shock from the defibrillator, causing his body to jerk, a sign that the rescue operation was showing promising results.
The incident was praised by the emergency services for the teenagers' calm handling. The DRK district association of Rems-Murr, which oversees voluntary aid work in the region, reported the incident, describing the teenagers' actions as not only brave but also medically remarkable.
