Livestock and Germinal Products Migration: Authorization Granted to Transit Animals and Seeds from Restricted English Zones to Scotland and Wales Due to Bluetongue
As of Sunday, 21 September, several changes have been made to the general licences for moving animals from Bluetongue restricted zones in England, Scotland, and Wales. Here's a breakdown of the key updates:
- The general licence for moving animals originating from a restricted zone from a market to their final destination in Scotland or Wales (EXD608(SW)) has been withdrawn and is no longer valid to use.
- A new general licence for the same purpose, moving animals from a sale or collection centre to a final destination in Wales (EXD608(E)), will be valid starting from midday on the same day.
- The general licence for the movement of vaccinated animals from within the bluetongue restricted zone in England to Wales to live (EXD662(E)) will be valid for movements to Scotland starting from 00:01 on Sunday 21 September.
- From the same date, a new general licence for the movement of vaccinated animals from within the bluetongue restricted zone in England to Wales to live (EXD661(E)) will be valid for movements to Wales.
- The general licence for the movement of live animals from a specified sale within the bluetongue restricted zone in England, to a premises in Wales (EXD657 (W)), has been withdrawn and is no longer valid to use.
- The general licence to move animals kept within a restricted zone either directly to slaughter in Scotland or Wales, or to a dedicated slaughter market in England for immediate slaughter in England or Wales (EXD603(SW)) has been withdrawn and is no longer valid to use. A new general licence for movements of animals from within a bluetongue restricted zone to slaughter in Wales (EXD603(E)) will be valid starting from midday on Sunday 21 September.
- The general licence to move animals from the bluetongue restricted zone to an approved 'red market' in Wales (EXD627(W)) has also been withdrawn and is no longer valid to use.
- It is crucial to always use the latest version of the licences, as they are occasionally updated.
- Before loading animals for movement out of a bluetongue restricted zone, it is important to check your stock for signs of disease.
- For moving animals or germinal products from England to Scotland, follow the guidance on movement licences and pre-movement tests in Scotland. For moving animals or germinal products from England to Wales, follow the guidance on movement licences and pre-movement tests in Wales.
The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is responsible for updating the general licence EXD662 for transporting live, vaccinated animals from the bluetongue restricted zone in England to Wales for establishment.
The changes apply to ruminants (cattle, sheep, goats, deer) and camelids (llamas, alpacas). Remember to keep a copy of the licence with you when you move animals under the licence, as this is a requirement.
