Loblaw's Pharmaprix Opens Simulation Centre to Boost Pharmacists' Role in Primary Care
Loblaw Companies, through its subsidiary Shoppers Drug Mart, has launched a significant initiative in healthcare education. David Markwell, Interim President and EVP, Chief Technology and Analytics Officer, announced the opening of the Centre de Simulation Pharmaprix at the Université de Montréal via a LinkedIn post.
The new facility, made possible by a $3 million gift agreement with the university, aims to integrate community pharmacists into primary care teams. This will enable them to provide timely and high-quality care in local communities.
The partnership seeks to build sustainability and resiliency in healthcare by preparing pharmacists to work alongside other healthcare professionals. This aligns with Pharmaprix's commitment to advancing pharmacy education and driving innovation to meet evolving patient needs.
Pharmaprix, with over 34 Pharmacy Care Clinics in Quebec and 200 across Canada, already offers services like assessments, minor ailment prescriptions, and chronic condition management. This new centre will further enhance the role of pharmacists in the healthcare system.
Loblaw Companies' investment in the Centre de Simulation Pharmaprix at the Université de Montréal reflects its dedication to shaping the future of pharmacy practice. The centre will equip pharmacists with the skills needed to thrive in an evolving healthcare landscape, ultimately benefiting patients and communities across Canada.
