Local Regional Manager from Hannaford has been appointed as the President of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
Brad Hamilton, a seasoned pharmacist and regional pharmacy operations manager at Hannaford Supermarkets, has made history by being elected as the first-ever representative from Maine to become president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
Hamilton's role on the NABP Executive Committee has seen him work with various task forces to advance pharmacy technician education and practices, expand international membership, and shape regulatory policy grounded in standards of care. His dedication to the pharmacy profession and public health has been evident in his work.
The election took place at the NABP's annual meeting in May. In his new role, Hamilton will oversee the NABP's work of supporting and advocating on behalf of its member boards of pharmacy nationwide to protect public health.
NABP supports and advocates for public health through innovative programs and services that enhance the pharmacy profession’s roles in patient care, medication safety, and public health initiatives. Key ways they do this include expanding the practice of pharmacy, promoting the use of emerging technologies, supporting initiatives like the Pharmacist Prescribing: Test & Treat, and collaborating with other pharmacy and public health organizations to advocate for policies that strengthen pharmacy’s role in clinical and safety services.
Hamilton continues to serve on the Maine Board of Pharmacy, of which he has been a member for more than a decade. He has served as both president and VP of the Maine Board of Pharmacy.
Hannaford Supermarkets, where Hamilton works, operates almost 190 stores, most with full-service pharmacies, in Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The company employs nearly 30,000 associates and is based in Scarborough, Maine. Wendy Boynton, director of pharmacy operations at Hannaford, expressed pride in Hamilton's new appointment and his commitment to public health.
In recognition of his contributions, Hamilton has received several awards. In 2014, he received Hannaford's Retail Operations Honorary Backpack Award. In 2021, he was awarded the Excellence in Pharmacy Award from the University of New England School of Pharmacy. The following year, he received the 2022 Bowl of Hygeia Award from the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the Maine Pharmacy Association.
Diana Darling, a store manager at Hannaford, was recognized as Store Manager of the Year. Progressive Grocer named Hannaford one of its Retailers of the Century and among the 10 Most Sustainable Grocers of 2025. Ahold Delhaize USA, Hannaford's parent company, is No. 11 on Progressive Grocer’s 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.
As Hamilton takes on his new role, he is expected to represent Maine and the pharmacy profession with integrity, vision, and a strong commitment to advancing patient care on a national level, as expressed by Boynton. Other retailers like Meijer and Marc's are also expanding accessibility to care and medication for their customers through partnerships with Homeward and NationsBenefits, respectively.
