New VARTA Lithium-ion Batteries Offer Energy Efficiency and Reliability for Off-Grid Leisure Applications

VARTA, a leading battery manufacturer, has introduced a new lithium-ion battery portfolio designed for deep-cycle off-grid leisure applications such as motorhomes and boats. The new batteries, launched in September 2025, are supplied by Clarios under the VARTA brand in EMEA.

The new batteries offer several advantages over conventional models. They provide more usable energy, a longer cycle life, reduced weight, and size. Compared to an AGM lead-acid battery of the same size and design, the new VARTA lithium-ion batteries offer a weight saving of around 55 percent.

One of the key features of the new batteries is their ability to withstand harsh conditions, including those found in marine applications. They are designed to function reliably in humid environments and can withstand temporary immersion in water up to one meter deep for up to 30 minutes without impairing their functionality.

The new batteries also come with intelligent options for monitoring battery power. A Bluetooth connection to a cell phone app allows users to easily check the charge status, overall status, cycles and usage, internal temperature, current, and alarms for all functions of the battery management system. For the 100 and 150 Ah types, a connection to modern CI-BUS onboard management systems is implemented to integrate battery management into the complete energy management of caravanning vehicles.

Another notable feature is the heating function in the 100 and 150Ah VARTA lithium-ion batteries, which allows for operation in cold conditions, making them suitable for winter camping or marine applications. The class A lithium-ion cells used ensure maximum reliability and performance.

The new VARTA lithium-ion batteries are available in six types, ranging from 50 Ah to 200 Ah, in four different sizes. They comply with protection class IP67, making them resistant to dust, dirt, and water jets. Special low-temperature versions of VARTA lithium-ion batteries are equipped with cell heating technology, extending their temperature range of application.

In summary, the new VARTA lithium-ion batteries offer a reliable and efficient solution for off-grid leisure applications, providing long-lasting energy with reduced weight and size, and the ability to withstand harsh conditions, making them an ideal choice for motorhomes, boats, and other off-grid applications.
