Medical facilities in Gaza face imminent crisis, WHO head urges an immediate truce
In the besieged enclave of Gaza, the situation has reached a critical point, with the World Health Organization (WHO) chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, urging for an immediate cease-fire. The ongoing military campaign has led to a humanitarian crisis, with hospitals on the brink of collapse and the region facing famine.
The displacement of traumatized families is forcing them into areas unfit for human dignity, as escalating violence blocks access and prevents the WHO from delivering lifesaving supplies. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has described the current conditions in Gaza as 'inhumane,' emphasising that the injured and people with disabilities cannot move to safety, putting their lives in grave danger.
The United Nations' Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, including Gaza, has concluded in its report that Israel has been committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza since October 7, 2023. This grim assessment was confirmed by the commission on Tuesday.
The Israeli army's offensive on Gaza since October 2023 has resulted in the death of over 65,000 Palestinians. Military incursions and evacuation orders in northern Gaza are causing new waves of displacement, adding to the already dire humanitarian situation.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called for an immediate end to the inhumane conditions in Gaza, urging the international community to intervene and bring an end to the violence. The lives of the people in Gaza hang in the balance, and urgent action is needed to alleviate their suffering.
