"Medical Professional Poisons Patients: Doctor Delivered Fatal Concoction to Some Patients"

In a shocking turn of events, a 40-year-old German physician, identified as Johannes M., stands trial for the alleged murder of 15 gravely ill patients under his care. The trial commenced on July 14, 2025.

The accused, a palliative care doctor based in Berlin, is accused of administering lethal injections of anaesthetic and muscle relaxants to his patients without their consent, causing their deaths within minutes. The victims, aged between 25 and 94 years old, mostly died at home.

Prosecutors cite "premeditated malice" and "base and despicable motives" as the motive behind the doctor's actions. They argue that he exploited his role as a caregiver, alleviating suffering, to instead kill his patients deliberately. The prosecution emphasises the doctor's disregard for life and his intention to act as a "master of life and death," organising home visits with the intent to kill rather than care.

Suspicions also arise that the doctor set fires in some victims' homes to destroy evidence. The ongoing investigation is extensive, with about 72 additional cases under review by a special homicide team after analysing hundreds of patient files. The court has scheduled 35 hearing sessions through January 2026, including testimony from around 150 witnesses and participation of relatives of the victims as civil claimants.

The accused has remained mostly silent, declining psychiatric evaluation and not addressing the court. Prosecutors seek a life sentence with preventive detention and a permanent medical license revocation, particularly aiming for a "particularly serious" conviction that would eliminate parole after 15 years.

This case is notable for the betrayal of the palliative care role, targeting vulnerable patients rather than alleviating their suffering. The doctor was active in several federal states, and the investigations were triggered by the arson cases he is suspected of committing.

The doctor is suspected of killing four people aged between 72 and 94 years in their Berlin apartments between June 11 and July 24, 2024. The crimes are suspected to have taken place between 2021 and 2024. The doctor is suspected of administering a lethal mixture of medications to a 25-year-old in September 2021, without a medical indication, to cause her death.

The fires in the patients' homes are suspected to have been set by the doctor to cover up the killings. The doctor came under further suspicion due to tips from the nursing service he worked for. The doctor is under suspicion for committing crimes related to his work as a palliative care doctor.

This tragic case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of trust and the ethical responsibilities that come with the role of a healthcare provider.

  1. The ongoing trial of Johannes M., a former palliative care doctor, involves charges of murder in the context of health-and-wellness and crime-and-justice, as he allegedly administered lethal injections to patients under his care.
  2. The general-news story unfolds with the revelation of the accused's suspected involvement in arson cases, a crime related to his work, which raises questions about his ethical responsibilities in the health-and-science sector and the impact on the faith placed in healthcare providers.
