Got your attention, eh? Well, listen up, because things are about to get interesting. Kassel, a city known for its cultural vibrancy, has taken a bold step forward in its quest for public safety. Following in the footsteps of Hanau and Frankfurt, Kassel has now prohibited the sale of nitrous oxide to minors!

That's right, folks, our beloved party gas is no longer accessible to the young whippersnappers. The city council's ruling coalition of Greens, CDU, and FDP felt that the increasing misuse of nitrous oxide as a "Partydrug" amongst the youth necessitated action. And who are we to argue? It's about time someone did something!

But Kassel didn't stop at just a ban on sales. They've taken it to the next level. They're going after those sneaky vendors, too. So, if you're underage and planning on buying your nitrous oxide on the sly, think again! The city's got its eye on you!

What else, you ask? An awareness campaign, my friend. An awareness campaign about the risks of nitrous oxide consumption. Vendors will be required to display this campaign alongside their products, so there's no excuse for being ignorant. And if that wasn't enough, the city council will examine whether they can ban consumption on public playgrounds, near schools, and kindergartens. No more laughing gas at the playground, kiddos!

Nitrous oxide has been a popular party drug for the younger generation for quite some time now. Inhaling that sweet-smelling gas gives you a brief high, but it comes at a price. Consuming nitrous oxide can lead to loss of consciousness, heart and lung failure, and neurological damage. And let's face it, who needs that, right?

Hanau was the first city in Hessen to ban the sale of the party drug to minors back in March. They also introduced restrictions on consumption near playgrounds and schools. Then came Frankfurt, back in May, with a ban that included distribution, such as in balloons. Cities like Osnabrück, Hamburg, and Dortmund have also implemented similar bans.

But don't think for a second that Kassel is alone in this fight. Hessen's health minister, Diana Stolz, welcomed the growing number of cities in Hessen banning the sale of nitrous oxide to minors. She's even calling for a nationwide ban on the party drug. And Hessen isn't the only one pushing for this – our very own federal health minister, Nina Warken (CDU), announced that banning nitrous oxide as a party drug would be one of her first acts in office.

So, there you have it. Kassel's standing up against the partydruge scourge. Let's hope other cities and regions follow suit. Because unlike a nitrous oxide high, this feels pretty darn good!

In line with the growing movement, Kassel's city council, composed of Greens, CDU, and FDP, has proposed a series of measures to ensure the well-being of their community. Integral to this initiative is the 'Community policy', which includes an employment policy focused on addressing the misuse of nitrous oxide as a 'Partydrug' among the youth. This policy aims to ensure vendors don't sell nitrous oxide to minors, and encourages health-and-wellness education, particularly mental health, in the community.
