Ongoing Disruption at Charité Affiliate CFM Persists - Prolonged strike persists against CFM subsidiary
Charité Facility Management Strike Persists
Employees of the facility management division (CFM) at the renowned Charité hospital in Berlin are continuing their strike on Friday, according to the United Services Trade Union (Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft or Verdi). The impact on hospital patients remains uncertain.
Approximately 3,500 people work at the CFM, providing services such as medical technology, ambulance transport, cleaning, and security. Verdi is demanding that 3,200 of these employees be paid according to the public-service collective agreement affiliated with Charité.
Negotiations with CFM management have stalled, as per Verdi, with no indication of an agreement. Despite three days of intense talks, employees have yet to receive a concrete offer. The CFM is reportedly seeking substantial concessions in employee classification.
On Friday, a central strike assembly is scheduled, during which the next steps will be discussed.

- The community policy at Charité should prioritize the resolution of the ongoing strike by their facility management division (CFM), particularly concerning the wage dispute with Verdi, as the ongoing work stoppage threatens workplace-wellness and patient care quality in Berlin.
- As the vocational training programs in the health-and-wellness and medical technology industries are integral for the next generation of professionals, CFM management and Verdi should consider incorporating additional benefits, such as improved finance and banking-and-insurance packages, as part of the ongoing negotiations to maintain the essential vocational training opportunities at Charité.
- In light of the ongoing strike, the CFM should invest in employee health-and-wellness initiatives, such as providing science-based workplace-wellness programs, to build a more harmonious working environment and improve employee satisfaction, which could expedite the resolution of the wage dispute and ensure long-term success for Charité.
