The runoff election for the position of Mayor of Lünen will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2025. The election will be a contest between Martina Förster-Teutenberg (SPD) and Dr. Christian Klicki (CDU).

The polling stations for the runoff election will be open from 8 am to 6 pm on the day of the election. Voters can find the location of their polling station on their voting notification or by visiting our website.

For those who prefer to vote by mail, the mail-in voting office will be open starting on September 18, 2025. The mail-in voting office is located in the ground floor of the North Wing of the town hall (rooms 13 to 19). The opening of the mail-in voting office is subject to the availability of the ballots by Thursday, and any delays will be communicated by the city administration.

Voting by mail can be done either directly at the mail-in voting office or by mail after the documents have been requested or automatically sent. Voters who have not yet requested materials for the runoff election can do so online at our website by September 24, 12 pm.

If you no longer have your voting notification, you can contact the election team at 02306 104-2040 for assistance. The mail-in ballot mailbox in the town hall (left of the market entrance) will be open for receiving completed ballots on Sunday, September 28, until 4 pm.

The municipal election for the mayor of Lünen, held on September 16, 2025, did not result in an absolute majority for any candidate. The SPD achieved the majority of the votes in the city council election in Lünen in 2025 with 27.11%, making it the strongest faction, followed by the CDU with 25.0%. This led to a runoff between Martina Förster-Teutenberg (SPD) and Dr. Christian Klicki (CDU).
