Psychiatric facility held suspected individual.

In Hamburg, a knife attack at the central station left 18 individuals injured. The suspect, a 39-year-old woman, was arrested after the incident and has since confessed. She was released from a psychiatric clinic in the district of Cuxhaven the day prior, despite medical professionals deeming continued detainment unnecessary.

The woman, who had previously received treatment at the clinic, was discharged without any grounds for further confinement. Authorities revealed that a voluntary continuation of treatment was not pursued upon her release.

During a court hearing, the 39-year-old was ordered to be detained in a psychiatric facility. The detention order, which covers attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm in 15 cases, was issued by a remand judge.

Three women aged 24, 52, and 85, as well as a 24-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and are currently in stable condition. Seven people were severely injured, and seven more were lightly injured. Initial reports indicate that some of the injured have already been discharged from hospitals.

The suspect was not politically motivated, according to earlier police statements, but rather exhibited signs of mental illness. The public prosecutor's office seeks her detention. Reports suggest that the suspect has no fixed address and is believed to be originally from Lower Saxony.

Witnesses at the scene bravely intervened, preventing more individuals from being harmed during the attack. Although the area around Hamburg Central Station has seen a surge in violent incidents, knives have been banned since October 1, 2023. The station, which serves over 500,000 travelers daily, returned to normal just hours after the attack.

Train services resumed as usual early the next morning, with no visible trace of the violence that occured between tracks 13 and 14.
