Redirecting young doctors: Destinations for fresh medical professionals in healthcare

In Belarus, the healthcare sector is seeing a significant shift, with an anticipated increase of 10% in healthcare personnel compared to last year. This growth is particularly noticeable in the field of medicine, where 2,450 intern doctors are set to join healthcare organizations.

One striking aspect of the Belarusian medical landscape is the gender composition. Women make up the majority of doctors (72.8%) and mid-level medical workers (94.7%) in the country. Among the doctors, nurses form the largest group, numbering 82,700.

However, there are areas where Belarus faces a shortage of specialists. Dental technicians, for instance, number only 1,600, leaving a gap in dental care services. The situation is equally challenging in the field of pediatrics, with just 4,400 pediatricians serving a population of 1,801,383 children.

The most common specialization among Belarusian doctors is "therapy" with 17,600 specialists. The total number of doctors in Belarus is approximately 40.7 per 10,000 inhabitants, which corresponds to about 38,000 doctors across all qualifications and specialties.

The focus this year is on staffing five in-demand specialties: anesthesiologists-reanimatologists, general practitioners, family pediatricians, diagnostic specialists (radiologists and ultrasound specialists), and dentists. Interestingly, 30 graduates from the Republican Bank of Talented Youth have been allocated to Republican Scientific and Practical Centers.

Most Belarusian doctors hold the first qualification category. The average age of a Belarusian doctor stands at 42.5 years. Over 52% of graduates have been allocated to central district hospitals and pharmacies.

With this influx of new healthcare personnel, the goal is to ensure a balanced distribution of specialists across the country, aiming to provide quality healthcare services to all citizens of Belarus.
