Samsung's Sleep Apnea Detection: A Global Rollout

Samsung unveils sleep apnea detection feature on Galaxy Watch, set to expand availability worldwide

Hear ye, hear ye! Samsung's health-focused feature is now heading to more pockets worldwide, and it's sleep apnea detection we're talking about.

Sleep apnea, a condition that can stir up trouble in the form of heart diseases, doesn't stand a chance against Samsung's innovative software. This feature, designed to find hints of sleep apnea using the Galaxy Watch, will now be gracing more wrists around the globe.

In their packed blog post, the Korean tech titan boldly declares the sleep apnea detection feature's arrival via the Samsung Health Monitor app in a whopping 34 European markets - be warned, availability may vary depending on country-specific registrations.

But wait, there's more! They're not done yet. Australia and Singaporeans will also get a piece of the action as the feature has undergone the necessary governmental procedures there too. Look forward to it coming to you if you're rocking a Galaxy Watch 4 series device or newer, paired with Wear OS 5 or higher.

Keening on Sleep Health

Samsung has been on a mission to enhance users' sleep health since 2023. Back then, they shared exciting news that their sleep health feature had miraculously passed through South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. This green light meant the feature could hit the scene in Korea as early as 2024, and it just keeps getting better!

As a know-it-all in 5 minutes, you might want to put on your expert hat with this one. Samsung's sleep apnea feature utilizes the Galaxy Watch's BioActive Sensor to cater to your nap needs. However, the fine print states that it's not for those who've got diagnosed sleep apnea already.

United States residents can breathe a sigh of relief, for the feature was approved by the FDA Stateside last February, allowing it to reach Galaxy Watches nationwide. It's for users aged 22 and above, but there's a catch. To use this feature, you've got to slap that watch on your wrist while in bed, and often. The watch needs to track your sleep for over four hours within a ten-day timeframe.

So there you have it, folks! Keep an eye out for the Samsung sleep apnea detection feature if you're in one of the 70 global markets it now serves (as of June 2025), which includes Europe's 34 freshly added countries, Australia, Singapore, and a group of additional regions (with approvals from CE, TGA, HSA, MFDS, ANVISA, and Health Canada).

As for future expansions, Samsung's lips are sealed. But with this recent global approval wave, it's much ado about a broadening reach beyond Europe, Australia, and Singapore. Stay tuned!
