St. Luke's bids farewell to Beate Kalowsky following her 34-year tenure.
In the small town of Ohligs, the St. Lukas nursing home has seen many changes over the years, but one constant has been the presence of Beate Kalowsky. After 34 years of dedicated service, Beate is preparing to retire from her role as director of nursing.
Beate, known for her infinite love for the elderly and her friendly interactions with residents, has been a pillar of the St. Lukas community. Her warmth and compassion have touched the lives of countless individuals, and her departure has left a void that will be difficult to fill.
As the director of nursing, Beate has overseen the operations of the nursing home and ensured the well-being and care of its residents. Her tenure has been marked by numerous achievements, including the opening of the St. Lukas day care center in 1999, which caters to 12 guests daily. In 2018, an expansion building was put into operation, including the renovation of the older building.
St. Lukas specializes in caring for people with dementia, Parkinson's, or other neurodegenerative diseases. Under Beate's leadership, her team incorporated their experience with dementia into the planning of the expansion, including designing circular paths for necessary mobility in each living area.
Business manager Franziskus von Ballestrem describes Beate as "a woman with a big heart." Many residents have lost essential communication abilities due to their illnesses, but Beate always kept them, their families, and the staff in mind.
Beate, who lives in Hilden by choice, is looking forward to travel during her retirement. She has expressed excitement about not having to wake up at 5:30 a.m. anymore. Anne Obermann, the current deputy, will succeed Beate as director of nursing at St. Lukas.
Despite Beate's retirement, she will always be remembered fondly by the St. Lukas community. There are still a few employees who have been there longer, but Beate's impact on the nursing home and its residents cannot be overstated. As she prepares to embark on a new chapter of her life, the St. Lukas community wishes her all the best and thanks her for her years of dedicated service.
