Strict regulations for managing coronavirus are recommended by a health expert
Schools and kindergartens are set to remain open, if possible, according to epidemiologist Timo Ulrichs from Akkon University Berlin. From an epidemiological perspective, keeping schools open under the current conditions is considered sensible.
However, Ulrichs also advocates for extending COVID-19 measures during the Christmas holiday season to prevent a surge in infections. He believes that an intensification of corona measures is necessary.
Ulrichs suggests that self-isolation could protect against further transmission of the coronavirus. This measure, he argues, could be particularly effective as students released from school would not have new contacts outside their class.
The measures already in place, according to Ulrichs, should be enough to keep schools open until the Christmas holidays. He also emphasizes the importance of wearing masks at home to help in reducing transmission within households.
While the exponential growth of the coronavirus could be slowed down until mid-November, the numbers are still high. Ulrichs warns that high numbers of coronavirus cases are dangerous due to the time-lagged increase in hospital admissions and patient numbers in intensive care units.
In conclusion, while schools are to remain open, Ulrichs urges for continued adherence to COVID-19 measures and encourages self-isolation even with cold symptoms to help combat the spread of the virus.
