Sustainable Kidney Center in Solingen Emphasizes 'Intelligent Dialysis' Techniques

The Nephrology Center Solingen, a valued tenant and partner of Diakonie Bethanien since 2011, is taking a significant step towards sustainability with the implementation of GreenTec Dialysis GmbH's Smart Dialysis solution. This innovative technology is designed to optimise resource usage and reduce the environmental impact of dialysis care.

Structural measures have been carried out to accommodate the installation of a photovoltaic system on a designated rooftop area. This solar power initiative is expected to save the Nephrology Center around 55,000 kWh of energy annually, accounting for approximately 55% of its current energy consumption.

In addition to the solar power savings, the Smart Dialysis solution is anticipated to reduce CO2 emissions significantly. The Nephrology Center Solingen will save an estimated 24.5 tons of CO2 and 575,000 liters of water annually due to the smart dialysis technology.

Dr. Christoph Zwernemann, a doctor at the Nephrology Center Solingen, emphasised the energy-intensive nature of dialysis, which consumes large amounts of electricity and water due to the need to heat large amounts of water for treatment. The Smart Dialysis solution addresses these challenges by incorporating energy-saving protocols, real-time monitoring and control of dialysis machine operations, and efficient water reuse or recycling systems.

Kai Goetze, managing director of Bethanien Hospital, expressed his support for the Nephrology Center Solingen's project, aligning with the Diakonie Bethanien's mission of preserving and carefully handling resources. The Nephrology Center Solingen is establishing a resource-efficient dialysis care at the Gesundheitszentrum Aufderhöhe of the Diakonie Bethanien.

The Smart Dialysis solution combines photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, and digital-controlled hot water storage to further reduce energy and water consumption. However, specific details about the GreenTec Solution 'Smart Dialysis' and its impact on energy consumption, water consumption, CO2 emissions, and operating costs in dialysis care centres are not yet available.

For more precise information about the GreenTec's Smart Dialysis solution, one may refer to specialized healthcare or environmental technology sources, or check GreenTec's official communications or technical documentation for exact details. The Nephrology Center Solingen's commitment to both ecological and economic sustainability underscores a desire to take not only medical but also social responsibility in the dialysis care sector.

  1. The Nephrology Center Solingen, through its implementation of GreenTec Dialysis GmbH's Smart Dialysis solution, is making a substantial stride towards reducing chronic kidney disease-related clinical waste, as the technology incorporates efficient water reuse or recycling systems.
  2. The Smart Dialysis solution is not only expected to improve health and wellness for patients with chronic kidney disease by optimizing resource usage, but it also aligns with the broader sustainability goals of dealing with climate change and preserving the environment, as per the principles of environmental science.
  3. As the Nephrology Center Solingen's renewed focus on sustainability touches upon multiple facets, including medical-conditions, health-and-wellness, chronic-diseases, climate-change, and environmental-science, it serves as an inspiration for other healthcare centers in the dialysis care sector to adopt similar resource-efficient practices.
  4. While the Nephrology Center Solingen's project with GreenTec Dialysis GmbH's Smart Dialysis solution highlights significant improvements in energy consumption, water consumption, CO2 emissions, and operational costs for dialysis care centers, the specific impact on these areas requires further analysis and research in the field of science.
