Top In-Demand Careers in Russia

In Russia as of April 2025, the most sought-after jobs included those in fields like materials science, quantum technologies, genetics, artificial intelligence, engineering, and programming according to a study by online recruitment platform hh.ru. Here's a lowdown on the job market situation in these times:

Among the 173 specialties analyzed, for every doctor's vacancy, there were 1.3 resumes, making doctors the most in-demand specialists, while janitors, salespeople, and cooks closely followed. The index of 1.4 for janitors, 1.5 for salespeople, 1.7 for turners and milling machine operators, cooks and bakers, and pharmacists-providers, and 1.8 for pharmacists-providers, suggests a significant shortfall of candidates in these areas, according to TASS. Indices between 2 and 3.9 show a shortage of candidates, while those below 1.9 indicate an acute shortage.

Besides these, 20 other specialties, such as merchandisers, fitters, plumbers, nurses, chief doctors, and department heads, were also in short supply. Oddly enough, the labor market maintains a moderate level of competition, with 5.6 active resumes per vacancy on average. However, the situation isn't equal across both specialties and regions.

The regions with the toughest staffing situation are the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Leningrad, Tula, Kurgan, and Vladimir regions, Khabarovsk Krai, and Rяazan Oblast. Notably, the situation has improved in all these regions compared to the beginning of the year.

Now, it's not all doom and gloom. For instance, the labor market in regions like Leningrad Oblast, due to its proximity to major cities like St. Petersburg, attracts professionals in IT, engineering, and education. The presence of industrial zones and infrastructure projects ensures a demand for skilled workers.

In places like Kurgan Oblast, known for its agricultural and machinery sectors, the demand for agricultural specialists and engineers is high. Quite interestingly, regions such as Khabarovsk Krai, placed strategically in the Russian Far East, are crucial for their natural resources and energy sector, requiring specialists in mining and engineering.
