The family further accused Anurag of repeated torture over dowry demands and alleged that he assaulted her multiple times. They also claimed that he forced her to abort a pregnancy. The last conversation Madhu had with her sister revealed that she had been assaulted by Anurag.

The family was informed of Madhu's death several hours after Anurag reported it to the police, raising suspicions about the circumstances. Anurag has been accused of controlling Madhu's communication and not allowing her to have a social life.
