UCMed Treats 27 Aftermath of Cebu Earthquake, 20 Remain Hospitalized
In the aftermath of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu on October 3, 2025, the University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) has been treating a total of 27 patients from the affected areas. As of now, 20 patients remain in the hospital while seven have been discharged.
The patients admitted to UCMed come from various cities and towns, with the majority being from Bogo (9), San Remigio (7), and Medellin (6). Other patients are from Daanbantayan (2), Tabogon (1), Cebu City (1), and Mandaue City (1).
The admitted patients have suffered multiple physical injuries, including fractures, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, stroke, and acute coronary syndrome. The severity of their conditions is categorised as follows: three are in critical condition (triage 'Red'), 22 are in serious but stable condition ('Yellow'), and two are in urgent condition ('Orange').
Medical interventions have included one craniectomy, two open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) procedures, and two patients remain intubated. The UCMed team has worked tirelessly to provide the best possible care for these patients.
As of the latest update, 20 patients remain in the hospital, with seven having been discharged. The University of Cebu Medical Center continues to provide critical care to the earthquake survivors, with the support of dedicated medical professionals. The identities of the treating medical professionals have not been disclosed by UCMed President Candice Gotianoy.
