Launches Third Action Week Focused on Combating Solitude - Week Three of Initiative Combats Solitude Led by Prien

With results from a December survey by the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) suggesting that 58% of Germans across all age groups experience feelings of loneliness, particularly younger generations, the ongoing strategy to address this issue by the Federal Government is gaining renewed importance. Previously initiated by the federal government, the strategy is being continued by Karin Prien of the CDU.

From May 26 to June 1, 2025, the federal government will organize the "Together out of Loneliness" campaign week, a part of the larger initiative against loneliness. The aim is to raise awareness about the issue and prompt discussions on how to alleviate it.

The Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) spearheads the campaign, emphasizing the collaborative effort against loneliness.

Data collection and monitoring are integral components of the strategy. The "Loneliness Barometer" by the Loneliness Network Germany is utilized to collect and publish data on loneliness, allowing for the tracking of its impact and the assessment of the strategy's effectiveness.

Community programs also play a crucial role in the campaign. Initiatives such as the "Fit und verbunden gegen Einsamkeit" ("Fit and connected against loneliness") project by the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the "Multi-generational Centre" federal program are designed to foster community connections and particularly target vulnerable groups to minimize loneliness.

It is worth noting that the strategy against loneliness is a comprehensive initiative by the Federal Government, rather than a specific effort by Karin Prien of the CDU. It encompasses a variety of measures aimed at strengthening communities and reducing loneliness across all age groups, as reflected in the increase in measures from 111 to 132 by the end of 2024.

  1. Under the leadership of Karin Prien of the CDU, the continued employment policy of the Federal Government's strategy against loneliness integrates health-and-wellness and mental-health initiatives to create an inclusive and supportive community environment.
  2. In line with the Federal Government's strategy against loneliness, the "Together out of Loneliness" campaign week in May 2025 promotes science-backed health-and-wellness practices, fostering mental health and community connections for both young and older generations.
