Widescale Action Across Saarland for Rebirth Initiative

University Hospital of the Saarland Offers Lay Resuscitation Demonstration at Homburg's Christian-Weber-Platz

On September 20, 2023, the University Hospital of the Saarland (UKS) will hold a resuscitation training event for laypeople at the Christian-Weber-Platz in Homburg. The event, which will take place from 2 pm to 7 pm, is part of the Week of Resuscitation, under the patronage of the Saarland Ministry of Health.

Interested individuals can practice resuscitation techniques using special dolls and receive instruction from experts at the UKS. The training will cover the 'PRÜFEN - RUFEN - DRÜCKEN' schema, a simple and easy-to-remember method for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Participants will be guided through the process, and questions will be answered by medical professionals.

According to Dr. Werner Armbruster, senior physician at the UKS and head of the Emergency Medicine department, quick help is crucial for survival during cardiac arrest. He states that with the correct technique and at a rate of about 100 compressions per minute, anyone can save a life. Simple mnemonics, such as songs with around 100 beats per minute, can help maintain the correct speed during CPR.

During a sudden cardiac arrest, chest compressions are the most important step, as they replace the heart's pumping function and keep blood flowing. Mouth-to-mouth ventilation is no longer recommended for laypeople, as it is not that easy to perform correctly, and there is usually no significant lack of oxygen in the blood at the onset of the incident.

The nationwide action day is part of the German Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI) and the German Association of Anaesthesiologists (BDA)'s ongoing efforts to promote vital assistance during cardiac arrest since 2012. Similar events are taking place in other cities across Saarland.

This event is open to all and requires no prior knowledge. The training is free, and interested participants are encouraged to attend. For more information, visit the University Hospital of the Saarland website or contact the Emergency Medicine department.

  • During the resuscitation training event at Homburg's Christian-Weber-Platz on September 20, 2023, organized by the University Hospital of the Saarland (UKS), attendees can learn about fitness-and-exercise techniques for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of health-and-wellness initiatives.
  • Participants will practice science-based methods, such as the 'PRÜFEN - RUFEN - DRÜCKEN' schema during the training, aimed at equipping laypeople with the knowledge and skills needed to save lives in case of cardiac arrest.
