Women and Girls Flock to Second KAMI Location: Over 600 Visits in a Year
On a Roll with KAMI e.V's WANITA Project in Harburg 🏙️
Not only is Harburg host to the initial branch of KAMI e.V, but the second site is also making waves! Kicking off in February, the WANITA project—Indonesian for 'woman'—found its home at the Harburger Ring 21. This project shines the spotlight on intercultural exchange for the ladies of our community.
Taking inspiration from Harburg's guiding principle, "Living Together in Diversity", the WANITA project tackles the domain of "Gender Equality" head-on. With the backing of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, KAMI e.V snagged €77,000 annually to fund this endeavor until December 31, 2026.
Since its debut, the center at Harburger Ring 21 has opened its doors to more than 600 women and girls between ages 11 and 78. As Demi Akpinar, the management and pedagogical director, explains, the WANITA project boasts a strong selling point: its exclusive ladies-only environment 👠.
The offerings? Women-centric and mothers-focused cafés, coupled with a host of creative and crafty activities that the ladies can sink their teeth into. A recent addition to the roster is none other than the Hip-Hop Academy, running every Friday at Harburger Ring, for the girls aged 12 and up 🕺.
Demi Akpinar points out the WANITA project's highlight from 2021: a spectacle that drew more than double the crowd of the previous year. The International Day Against Violence Against Women saw the Feuervogel play host to the intercultural women's festival. Over 200 women and girls graced the event with their presence.
So, keep your eyes peeled for future events by the WANITA project—who knows what exciting activities they'll come up with next! 🎉💕💪🚀
Other community events may also be hosted by the WANITA project, exploring diverse topics such as science, health-and-wellness, and lifestyle. One could even anticipate home-and-garden workshops tailored for women, as part of the project's commitment to intercultural exchange. The WANITA project in Harburg is not just about building connections, but also fostering learning opportunities and personal growth for women from various walks of life.
