Women's Success Center: Success of Women Equals Success of Humanity

The Women's Pavilion, a thematic space dedicated to celebrating and empowering women, is one of the main attractions at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. Designed by renowned Japanese architect Yuko Nagayama, the pavilion reuses the facade of the Japan Pavilion from Expo 2020 Dubai and features a lush entrance garden.

The core message of the Women's Pavilion is about creating a future of mutual respect, where everyone, regardless of gender, can achieve their full potential and live in harmony. It uses a mix of canvas, stone, and plant artworks to tell stories and amplify women's voices across various domains.

Visitors can experience video and audio messages from a diverse range of women, including lawyers, activists, artists, entrepreneurs, and leaders who discuss topics such as refugee experiences, environmental challenges, and gender equality. The pavilion honours and connects cultural expressions and perspectives, with performances like those at the opening ceremony involving barefoot dancers representing varied backgrounds and ethnicities.

Central figures featured in the pavilion include novelist Yoshimoto Banana, poet and activist Emtithal Mahmoud, and climate advocate Xiye Bastida, highlighting personal emancipation, activism, and climate advocacy through the lens of women’s experiences.

The Women's Pavilion opened officially in late May 2025 and will be open until October 13, 2025, coinciding with the overall Expo schedule. Events and experiences within the pavilion are ongoing throughout this period.

The Women's Pavilion is a collaboration between the Japan Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, and Cartier, who supports the effort to centre gender equality and women's empowerment as core Expo themes. The pavilion follows from the success of the Women’s Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and continues the tradition of women-focused exhibitions dating back to the 1873 Vienna Expo.

The upper floor of the Women's Pavilion, called "Wa space," hosts talks, panel discussions, and other events. The ground floor was designed by contemporary British artist Es Devlin and includes an immersive audio experience.

The Women's Pavilion is located in the East Gate zone, and visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in a sensory experience of art, storytelling, and dialogue, supporting the theme: “When women thrive, humanity thrives.” The venue invites reflection and action on gender equality and sustainability.
